The bibliography on the string maker's trade and on the handmade production of gut strings for musical instruments is very ample, and here we intend to offer the reader only a selection of the most significant works and in particular those that have been fundamental to define the types of strings in gut that are proposed by Cordedrago.

The site does not contain detailed bibliographic references either because they would weigh down the text, or because it is intended as soon as possible to publish in-depth scientific articles, which cannot be anticipated here.

The proposed bibliography lists both the ancient historical sources, the real "pillars" of any attempt to reconstruct the string maker's work, and the scientific studies on the subject, which are of fundamental help to decode the documents, but which are sometimes misleading to because of subjective interpretations.

We particularly recommend reading the work of Patrizio Barbieri, because it collects and publishes a very rich documentation relating to the Roman and Neapolitan string makers from 1550 to 1950, commenting on it in a very pertinent and critical way: in the elaboration of the Cordedrago gut string types such essay was indeed fundamental.
